The Highest-Valued Startups in the World

According to a report by Bloomberg, Indonesian unicorns Gojek and Tokopedia are merging into GoTo. The company will be made up of Gojek's ride-hailing operations, Tokopedia's e-commerce business and a designated fintech unit.

Gojek's and Tokopedia's combined valuations on CB Insights would make GoTo the 12th highest-valued startup in the world, worth $17 billion.

The merger would create an Indonesia presence among the top 20 unicorns in the world, which consisted of mainly Chinese and U.S. companies as well as one Swedish (Klarna), one Brazilian (Nubank), one Indian (One97 Communications), one British (Checkout.com) and one Australian (Canva) endeavor.

According to the CB Insights unicorn list, Chinese AI company Bytedance is the highest-valued startup – currently private, up-and-coming company – in the world. The parent company of TikTok is valued at $140 billion. Bytedance runs content platform Toutiao in China, which uses machine learning to tailor a newsfeed for each individual viewer out of traditional and new media sources.

According to CB Insights, there were more than 650 unicorn startups (companies valued at $1 billion or more) valued at a combined $2.2 trillion in the world as of April 2021.
